In 1984, Mr. Jacques Houle acquired a company that was already known as a specialized window and door retailer since 1968. He then decided to focus his efforts on manufacturing superior quality entry door systems under the name Portatec. During its 31 years of operation, Portatec has managed to outrun its competition by offering, year after year, innovative and distinct products at the forefront of the market.

Offering a whole new world of value added options to its products allows our customers to personalize their entry door system and make it unique. That is why Portatec has always managed to make constant innovations in order to add new ideas and features to the design process of our entry door systems.

In response to the growing demand in the residential renovation market, Portatec has created a unique system consisting of a strong internal support team, a tradition of continuous improvement, and the highest quality of raw materials and assembling techniques.

In 2012, following the retirement of Portatec’s founder, Mr. Jacques Houle, his daughter, Ms. Catherine Houle, became President and the major shareholder of the company. In 2013, Portatec started several key projects: moving the plant to more spacious and better adapted facilities, a complete reorganization of all production operations, and the acquisition of brand new production equipment.

For 36 years now, Portatec has never ceased to innovate in the door and window world, more specifically in creating superior quality entry door systems. Portatec has always managed to set itself apart from the industry standards by offering, year after year, products with features redefining today’s market: factory stained wood finish on steel doors, fiberglass doors, venting sidelites, an unlimited choice of color, our exclusive glass design collection, factory installed hardware, etc. These are just a few of the features offered by our team specialized in custom-built door systems. In addition, our entry door systems now include a brand new contemporary-inspired door collection. Beyond the attention paid to design, all Portatec doors offer the best possible energy efficiency. The vast majority of our products our are ENERGY STAR certified.

Following a market analysis and as well as a survey of more than 2,000 people in 2018, Portatec once again wanted to stand out and innovate. Since fall 2019, the company now offers a complete collection of interior doors with a unique and contemporary design. This exclusive range of interior door products is 100% turnkey.
